Things have been busy lately and have had a lot of things happen. On Sept 18th we had our 5th anniversary. On the 27th we had a new Bishop put in at our ward. I missed the last change as I was on my honeymoon. The bishop at that time was put in the day after we were married. I have been busy working on quilts and trying to get them done before the deadlines. That have been set. My brother-in-law sent pictures of his son on his mission in Finland and he apparently he got to see Santa and give him a Book of Mormon. You can see the picture here.

The center quilt was done with the same fabrics as mine. You can see the variety of items entered.

This one was done with the same fabric as my mothers

These are pictures of some of the items that were submitted. I forgot my camera the day I went so these are taken with my phone.

Update on just for fun

Sorry to say I didn't win any big prizes for my entering the Ugly fabric contest. I did get a five dollar gift certificate, so that OK. They said next time they do the contest they are going to have categories. Which I think will make it better. There were so many cute and clever items made. It is amazing how talent some people are.

Just for fun

Just for fun I entered a ugly quilt contest. I bought a bag at the Calico House quilt store. They had the main fabric tied around the outside of the bag and I didn't know what the other colors were in the bag. This was the colors I had in my bag. The paisley fabric was the main color. We could make a small quilt or hand bag or garment. The only requirement was we had to use 1/2 yard of the main fabric and had to have the other colors in the project. We could add to the fabrics.

Front of purse
This is what I decided to make for my project. They are on display in the store from May 5 to the end of May. They are going to have customers vote on the projects and are going to give out gift cards as rewards. Will find out who the winners are in June.

This is what my mother made with her fabric.

Birthday

For my birthday my husband took me to the Renaissance Pleasure Faire. This was my second time going. It is amazing how some of the people really get into dressing up. The neat part was when we were walking up to the entrance, a lady stopped us. She had four complementary tickets and was only going to use two. So we took the tickets she had, the only thing we had to pay for was parking. We enjoyed the day walking around and watched some of the shows. After Darryl took me to Black Angus for dinner. I enjoyed the day very much.

I'm still here

It seems like I haven't had a chance to just relax. I have been busy since Christmas and now is the only time it seems to have quieted down. We had Christmas which was nice. Then two weeks later we had stake conference, I was busy helping my husband get ready. We had a General Authority come and it was Elder James Hamula. I help my husband by copying the programs for Sunday, which took all of Saturday morning! He had extra meetings to go to. The nice part was on Saturday between priesthood and the adult session they had a dinner for the Stake Presidency and Elder Hamula, Temple Presidency and Mission counselor. My husband and I got to sit with Elder Hamula along with President McKeon, Amy and Sol Kewanekene. It was a nice experience. Found out that Elder Hamula and Darryl served in the same mission, when they went on their missions. Elder Hamula told us story about one of his daughters. He even asked Amy and I for our opinions which left both at first with nothing coming to our minds. Amy answered first and I thought I was off the hook but he asked me. By the time he asked me I had an impression in my mind as what to answer. The question he asked us "What do you think the concerns of the women of the Whittier stake are?" Working with the youth I have seen that they have a way harder set of challenges then when I was there age. It is frightening to see how the world has changed.

Catching up

The Holidays came and went so fast. I'm still trying to get my Christmas decorations put away. It didn't seem like I had them out for very long. I had a very nice Christmas and hope everyone else did. I can't believe we are getting ready to have Stake Conference already. So my husband is going to be busy with that and I will help him to get things ready. He was a big help to me with getting the packets for the teachers ready. This year is going to be interesting in primary with the new schedule. It makes it a little harder to get things ready for primary with the other ward still in the rooms. Hopefully it will mellow out. We got only one weekend to try it because we have stake conference next week. It's the way things go.
